Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth: Collection Highlights is the most extensive survey of the Museum's collection to date. Featuring 220 works of art by more than 150 artists, the volume illuminates the Modern's extraordinary holdings in painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, installation, film, and video. Works by modern masters including Francis Bacon, Dan Flavin, Philip Guston, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Agnes Martin, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Andy Warhol appear alongside examples by many of the most internationally recognized artists living and working today, such as Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Mark Bradford, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Anselm Kiefer, Martin Puryear, Gerhard Richter, Sean Scully, Cindy Sherman, Frank Stella, and Kehinde Wiley. The book also surveys the Modern's holdings of modern and contemporary Texas-based artists, from the Fort Worth Circle of the 1930s and 1940s to renowned living artists David Bates, Julie Bozzi, Vernon Fisher, and Hubbard / Birchler. Popular visitor favorites by KAWS, Ron Mueck, and Takashi Murakami are also prominently highlighted. Each work is represented with a full-color image and paired with an informative text. Interspersed are longer essays about artists whose work the Museum has acquired in depth. Lee Hallman, Associate Curator at the Modern, organized this expansive project, which will remain the authoritative book about the collection for many years to come.

Hallman's introductory essay explores the institution's fascinating origins - established in 1892 by twenty visionary and enterprising women, it is the oldest museum in Texas - and the dynamic evolution of its acquisition program. Today, the Museum's holdings comprise nearly 3,000 works of art. With dates spanning from 1940 to 2018, the selections highlighted in this book provide an opportunity to celebrate both the Modern's rich cultural history and its ongoing commitment to the art of our time.

Seventeen years have passed since the Modern celebrated the grand opening of its Tadao Ando-designed building in December 2002 with an exhibition and publication devoted to the Museum's permanent collection. "The expanded and redesigned catalogue accounts for the significant growth of the Museum's holdings in the intervening years," says Hallman. "The volume reflects the expanding breadth and depth of our permanent collection and our continuing efforts to broaden the diversity of perspectives represented in our galleries. It has been our aim to produce a book that is accessible, informative, and appealing to the casual visitors, students, scholars, and artists alike who make up our viewing public."
